  1. My pleasure. I always enjoy your site. I especially like the fact you don’t hide your gardening debacles. In my life I always learn from mistakes, and after making thousands and thousands, I think I might finally be getting wise, but that may be a mistake

    • That’s actually something I was encouraging other parents at church about recently during a baby dedication. Kids mess up, big surprise, so do their parents. That’s a great time to teach them about owning their mistakes, asking for forgiveness, and repenting. I think people try and gloss over or make excuses for mistakes and end up being worse people for it. In this case they are just garden mistakes, but the same principle applies. 🙂

      • I agree. There is an old saying, “Nothing ventured; nothing gained.” However if you are afraid to make a mistake how can you venture anything? And if you are afraid to admit a mistake, how can you learn anything?

Many people are reluctant to point out a mistake, assuming the criticized person will take offence. However they are a lot braver on the internet, when they don’t have to look the person they criticize in the eye. So you may get some really nasty comments, from time to time. What I try to do is overlook the nastiness and see what the criticism actually is. If I see I have made a mistake I gush profuse thanks. Often a person who began with nastiness is totally disarmed, and some have turned out to be really nice people, once you get to know them.

Most people are more open, once they learn you actually thank them for their opinions, and most of what I learn is from other people.

    • And it was drifting north a bit, when that picture was taken. Starting south now, but it has really been stalled, compared to other years.

But this post is suppose to involve warmer subjects!
